Obtaining Records for Attendees of the Child Center / State School

The Monroe County Local History Room & Museum does not have the Child Center/State School attendee records, as they are sealed records kept down in the State of WI Archives in Madison. The records of children who lived at the Sparta Child Center (a.k.a. State School for Dependent and Neglected Children) are restricted unless you are seeking your own records or are the next of kin of that person.

MCLHR does have some institutional records and photographs (searchable by name on this website), but not personal/official information about the children who passed through the Child Center.

To gain access to the attendees’ records, the first step is to contact the Wisconsin Dept. of Health and Family Services: 608-422-6928
