Monroe County Local History Room & Museum

The MCHS Inc is a nonprofit corporation, 501 (c) (3) organized to preserve the history of Monroe County Wisconsin.

The grant program is made available by excess funds, up to $5000.00 annually, generated through the society’s fundraisers, primarily the art/craft shows.

Grant decisions are made quarterly at MCHS board meetings recommended by the grant committee of the MCHS Inc. Application papers are available from: MCHS P.O. Box 422, Sparta, WI 54656. Grants may be submitted at anytime and will be acted on at the next quarterly board meeting after the grant committee’s recommendation.

Category One: Beautification of a facility of Historic Building, or artifact, primarily perennial trees, foliage of a permanent nature. No new building or new exterior construction. May be used for replacement of existing windows, steps, handicapped accessible projects or inside for paint, lighting, electrical upgrade, signage for exhibits or similar projects, or towards restoration projects of a building, facility or artifact, etc.

Category Two: Brochure/rack card production, signage (permanent), directional, but not advertising in publications or for production of newsletters.

Category Three: Slide, video, oral or photograph preservation or programs of a permanent nature relating to Monroe County preferably of a historic nature, etc. May be used to upgrade/purchase computers or programs, microfilm readers, tape recorders or related materials for use to preserve or use the history of Monroe County.

Category Four: Construction of permanent exhibits or construction for revolving temporary exhibits of a permanent nature (not a one time use). May be used for security systems.

Category Five: Historic books, family histories, slide/video programs or maps pertaining to Monroe County and for publication or anything of a similar nature such as microfilm of obsolete records.

Category Six: Sponsorship of traveling educational exhibits that would relate to the history of Monroe County Wisconsin that we might have been involved in, such as, Civil War, archeology, Depression, etc. This category could also be used for exceptional speakers for an all day educational seminar with fees charged or not charged to the public.
