Monroe County Local History Room & Museum

Monroe County Historical Society

The Monroe County Historical Society Inc (MCHS) is charted exclusively for education, to preserve, advance and disseminate the knowledge of the history of Monroe County, WI. It is a nonprofit membership 501c(3) organization under the direction of a Board of Directors.

(NOTE: MCHS is a separate and distinct organization from the Monroe County Local History Room, but is affiliated with it as we share a common purpose.)

HISTORIC PRESERVATION:

MCHS was instrumental in establishing the Monroe County Local History Room, Wegner Grotto County Park, and Deke Slayton Memorial Space & Bicycle Museum (now both distinct and separate organizations). Currently, MCHS owns and operates the Big Creek Church and one-room Brackett School as historic sites.

GRANT PROGRAM:

MCHS offers several Transportation Grants to Monroe County schools each year. Click on the link below to learn more about this program:

MEMBERSHIP:

Annual dues are $10.00 individual (annual), $15.00 family, $75.00 Life Membership (age 55 or older), $150.00 Life Membership (under age 55). We would like to invite you to join us at our quarterly and annual meetings and special events. Be sure to check our quarterly newsletter for announcements about upcoming meetings and special events.

ARTS & CRAFTS SHOW:

The Monroe County Historical Society sponsors two HUGE arts and crafts shows annually, held the 1st Saturday in March and November at the Sparta High School. For vendor information and forms, please download both documents below.
